I have always been drawn to houses that were once inhabited but have since been left in disrepair. These houses and the discarded objects within elicit a feeling of loss; the loss of life and habitation from what was once a decorated family home where activities took place, and also the loss of function as the building no longer provides the necessary shelter and protection that it once could.
With this in mind I am working with domestic objects found in charity shops. To me these items represent the abandonment and passing of time that is associated with the houses. The abandoned charity shop items have gone from belonging to someone and being useful to being stacked up with other pieces belonging to other people, left gathering dust they become anonymous in a way. In my work I am exploring these feelings of loss and the passing of time through the breaking down of domestic ware.
